Mission statement
We offer confidential helpline, text, webchat and email support to girls and women who self-injure (or self harm). We also provide information and training about self-injury for professionals to raise awareness of the issue and help to improve service provision for people who self-injure.
Self-injury is a widespread issue affecting around 10% of young people with an average age of onset of 12 years. It is a response to profound emotional pain which the person cannot express in any other way. Self harm is a means of coping, of expressing difficult emotions; and is often related to troubling issues such as sexual abuse, bullying, and low self-esteem. -
Aims
Self injury Support aims to:
- • To offer support to women in emotional distress, and particularly to those who self-injure
- • To reach out to vulnerable children and young adults to offer support to help prevent long term mental health issues and continued harm through future generations.
- • To develop services, and raise awareness of self-injury and mental health issues, through training and providing information.
