  • Mission statement

Sefton O. P. E. R. A (Older Persons Enabling Resource & Action) is a charitable voluntary organisation providing projects, mainly to enable local older people to have choices in relation to their own health , to maintain and to improve the quality of their lives, recognising they are an important resource to their peers and their community. As an organisation we aim to increase awareness of the issues faced by older, vulnerable isolated and socially excluded people in our community. We open up the door of opportunity for volunteering nationally as well as recruiting volunteers for OPERA. We build on the skills and experiences of beneficiaries, offering a chance to train and gain new skills meet new people whilst support older and vulnerable residents to maintain independence and remain in their homes.
Training is major parts of OPERA’s work in the community, involving carers and beneficiaries. Every week volunteers deliver activities to approximately 150 older people totalling over 6,300 people every year. The project is a “doorstep” service for older people, by older people who often feel neglected, afraid to go out, and who may have health issues, which they cannot always address. Giving these older people the opportunity to have contact with other people, whilst at the same time taking part in one of OPERA’s activities
