Surtal Arts is an arts organization specializing in Asian arts promoting arts and artists from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. We use the arts to raise awareness of diverse cultures, bring people together, promote integration and social cohesion, promote health and social well being, remove social isolation and antisocial behaviour from the communities in Derby and Derbyshire.
All our projects are open to all in the community who appreciate diverse arts and culture. All our groups have good mix of people from the Asian and the wider community. We have regular arts activities (traditional Asian and cross cultural dance and music) for young people in the community; Bollywood keep fit session for Women only and ongoing educational and volunteer training workshops at schools and in community. Some of our work targeted towards specific groups of people who are disadvantaged and socially isolated and live in deprived parts of Derby e. G. Mental Health group, Asian women's group and older Asians (1st and 2nd generation) and young people.
We work in partnerships with various partners from the arts sector, health and Neighborhoods to deliver concerts, two annual festivals (South Asian Arts Festival and Festival of Light) in Derby

Established since 1994 in direct response to public need, Surtal’s aim is to promote integration and understanding, supporting social and community cohesion, inside and outside our community. It is committed to attracting culturally diverse audiences and increasing participation in high quality Asian arts, engaging other communities in an attempt to break down barriers and promote respect, understanding and tolerance. Surtal plays a significant role locally and regionally in promoting appreciation and practice of the diverse art forms originating from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It aims to encourage creativity, public access to Asian culture, the dissemination of Asian arts and culture, inter-cultural dialogue and knowledge of the history and cultural heritage of the South Asian people. Working closely with professional Artists, youth, community groups and other organisations, Surtal promotes and develops South Asian art forms though practical projects, performances, training courses, conferences, seminars, schools programmes, festivals, showcases and promotion of UK based and international artists.
