The New Forest Ninth Centenary Trust

The New Forest Ninth Centenary was orignally set up to commemorate the nine hundredth anniversary of the New Forest. After extensive fundraising the Trust managed to create a museum and visitor centre and has since gone on to create a reference library and extended educational facilities. The charity, in its Declaration of Trust states that the Trust exists '... To promote interest, research and knowledge relating to the New Forest, for the education and benefit of the inhabitants of the New Forest and the public at large'

The now named 'New Forest Centre' attracts over a quarter of a million visitors to the Forest each year and boasts an all year round exhibitions and events programme. It has been successful in being awarded a major HLF bid and a subsequent smaller one (to help refurbish the main gallery) and looks to trusts and foundations as well as individuals to support its work. It is run by a small, hard working and dedicated team of employees including education staff as well as being supported by a growing band of volunteers. As an organisation, we are constantly looking for new ways to engage with our audiences but the lack the funding to fully realise our potential.
