Citizens Theatre Ltd

The Citizens Theatre Ltd was founded in 1943 and has since become synonymous with its home in the Gorbals where it was permanently established in 1945. This diverse area of Glasgow has been transformed in recent years but still faces significant social and economic challenges. The unusual location of the Citizens Theatre allied to its celebrated work, has contributed to its international reputation.

In 2006, Jeremy Raison and Guy Hollands became joint Artistic Directors. This brought the outstanding skills base and reputation of the Citizens Theatre together with TAG, Scotland’s most experienced Theatre Company for children and young people.

The Citizens’ plans for the next three years are ambitious: alongside producing some of the finest shows in Scotland at its Glasgow home, the theatre will tour work nationally and internationally and further develop its unique participatory programme.

Alongside producing work of unrivalled quality the Citizens Learning and TAG team will continue to work with a variety of communities across Scotland, offering people of all ages and from many diverse backgrounds opportunities to participate in drama and theatre.

The Citizens Theatre is firm in the belief that this engagement brings lasting benefit to all involved.
