European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO) provides training and a unique experience for talented young musicians from all over Europe and prepares them for professional careers as orchestral musicians.

Founded 1985

  • Mission statement

The European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO) is unique in providing talented young musicians with the quality of training and experience necessary to embark on careers in the world of baroque music. It acts as a bridge between conservatoire study and professional life; former EUBO members are now in every major professional baroque ensemble in the world.

Each year a completely new orchestra is chosen from the most talented young students who are setting out on professional careers as baroque orchestral musicians. 100 candidates from across Europe take part in one of the four-day audition courses and the 25 successful candidates are members of the orchestra for six months. In this short time the orchestra attains an amazingly high standard, equalling that of the fully professional period instrument orchestras to which the players aspire.

  • Aims

    EUBO Development Trust aims to:

    • provide bursaries for up to 40 students to attend the audition course
    • provide additional support for 22 students to participate as members of the orchestra for the European tours
