Royal Mencap Society

We are here to improve the lives of people with a learning disability and their families now, and fight alongside them for a better future.

The services we provide range from round-the-clock care to helping someone join in with local leisure activities, providing advice and information on things like employment and education to helping someone live independently for the first time.

In a nutshell, we try to help in any area of a person's life where they need support.

Founded 1946

  • Mission statement

Mencap's mission is to transform society's attitudes to learning disability and improve the quality of life for people with a learning disability and their families.

Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included. Our challenge is to make this a reality.

We have six priorities - these are the areas that people with a learning disability tell us we need to have the biggest impact on and where there is most need to see change for the better.

    - Reducing stigma and discrimination
    - Making a difference, here and now
    - Supporting friendships and relationships
    - Improving health
    - Early intervention
    - Employment
