Second Chance works with young people who have been abused come from a poverty stricken background or have learning difficulties, They have slipped through the net and no one else will work with them.
Second Chance is a national, serious and innovative social working agency based in Portsmouth. In 2015 we celebrated our 31st anniversary. During that time we have been at the forefront of working with Britain's youth, often recognising and broadcasting needs before Government and Statutory agencies have become aware. We are able to identify an individual Childs needs and put together a range of services for that child.
Uniquely Second Chance has not forgotten its roots in the sport of angling. We know that taking the youngsters fishing is a way of getting to know them, gaining their confidence and avoiding condescension. Angling gives these children a sense of achievement, confidence and social understanding.
The Children Second Chance work with come from three main backgrounds in roughly equal proportions. They may have been abused, sexually, physically or mentally. They come from a poverty stricken background in, say an inner city area. They may have learning difficulties. This is an over simplification and many experience all three backgrounds! These children carry their disability on the inside; they do not always generate sympathy from those they meet. We consider them to be amongst the most disadvantaged group of people in Britain today. One of the Charity’s mottos is: Changing the world.... One child at a time!
Second Chance aims to:
- To give young people and their familes a second chance at building an improved quality of life.
