Healing Hands Network

Healing Hands Network offers complementary therapies to those affected by war and its aftermath. We are run entirely by volunteers who give their time and skills. We work in Sarajevo Bosnia and Herzegovina with those who suffered the atrocities of war. We believe we are the only humanitarian aid still present helping these people.

Founded 1996

  • Mission statement

Healing Hands Network is a small UK charity dedicated to the relief of suffering caused by war & its aftermath We send qualified and experienced complementary therapists to Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, to treat people physically, mentally and emotionally traumatised following the four-year siege that ended in 1995.
In 2011 we launched a new project offering free treatments to returning Servicemen and women and their partners in the UK.
We are about to start work with Bosnia UK and Remembering Srebrenica, organisations representing Bosnian refugees who fled to the UK, many as children who had been in camps or witnessed atrocities and who lost extended family members.
An audit in 2016 confirmed that we are still very much needed in Bosnia, however we want to encourage our clients to develop their own skills. We had an excellent and inspiring response to our Reiki workshops, some of our clients are now qualified Reiki Masters and run regular Reiki shares. In 2017 basic massage techniques were introduced for use on friends and family. Yoga will be introduced later this year. Additional funding raised will be used to develop our training programme.
The 20th Anniversary of the start of the war 6th April 1992 was marked by The Sarajevo Red Line - 11,541 red chairs in ‘Titova Street’ Sarajevo, in memory of everyone killed in the siege.
