We are Europe's only Baroque & Tango Orchestra! Playing concert halls, prisons, day care centres or schools, we use music for entertainment, for therapy and always for fun.

  • Mission statement

The Oxford Concert Party (OCP) is a registered charity committed to harnessing the transformative power of music to improve people’s lives, especially for those imprisoned by isolation, disability, illness or walls. All its members are highly skilled community musicians as well as passionate and professional performers. The principal aims of OCP are the advancement of education and enrichment of community life through music and it aims to make music accessible to all and offers a diverse range of musical traditions including original compositions, Vivaldi, Argentinean Tango, Russian music and Scottish and Irish folk tunes. OCP’s approach and eclectic mix of musical styles, instruments and traditions lends itself well to projects that aim to promote inclusion and break down false barriers of perception.

The charity has two principle areas of work:
    (i) Public performance and touring: nationally and internationally.
(ii) Participatory project work with: older people, prisoners, refugees and asylum seekers, people with mental health needs, disabled people, children and young people in educational settings.

  • Aims

    Oxford Concert Party aims to:

    • To bring music of high quality to a wide variety of people of all ages in the community & break down the barriers which can arise between performers & audience in the traditional concert environment.
    • The de-mystification of certain types of music seen as “high-culture” (e.g. chamber music of the eighteenth century) which many people see as irrelevant and inaccessible.
    • Bring music to people who rarely have access to live concerts with special commitment to therapeutic work in prisons, day centres & wherever we feel music can have a healing or humanising influence.
    • To facilitate the expression of others through music workshops. Our approach is to enable people to realise their own potential through music through whichever medium they choose.
