The Lightbox - an independent charity operating a museum/gallery in Woking for the benefit of its local community and the South East. It has a strong learning programme and hosts changing exhibitions.
The Lightbox is a lively gallery and museum in Woking, Surrey. It's stimulating, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere is the ideal environment for exploration, discovery, creativity and enjoyment. Our belief is that 'Art makes you feel better' and The Lightbox provides a wide range of services and events to suit those who want a few moments light relief in a busy day to those with a passion for learning more about art and wish to gain an in depth knowledge about the creative process.
The Lightbox has an exciting programme of changing exhibitions from fine art to family-friendly shows, and Woking's Story - an interactive museum of Woking's social history. Learning is at the heart of The Lightbox and we have an extensive workshop, lecture and schools programme. The Lightbox is an integral part of it's local community and works with a number of groups who might otherwise find difficulty in accessing the arts and heritage. Recent projects have included working with adults with mental health needs, long term carers, adults and children with visual impairments and the homeless.
The Lightbox aims to:
- To provide an opportunity for the local community to engage with the arts and heritage to improve and enhance quality of life and happiness.
- To preserve the heritage of the Borough of Woking
- To provide access to high quality exhibitions for learning and enjoyment
