Hertfordshire Society for the Blind

Our Mission is to support and Empower the people of Hertfordshire who are blind or have a visual impairment. We do this through training and information giving, through counselling and advocacy. We provide services to limit loneliness and social isolation, including befriending. We facilitate outings and social activities. We help with practical tasks such as shopping. We currently reach over 2000 people of all ages. With the numbers of people with sight loss growing, me must grow too.

  • Mission statement

Hertfordshire Society for the Blind is an independent registered charity and a
limited company. We have 8 paid members of staff and approximately 109 volunteers.
Our mission is to offer practical and emotional support and advice to people — from the point of their diagnosis of a serious eye condition through to getting their lives back on track as much as possible.

Each year we carry out over 2000 home visits to visually impaired people, and in many cases arrange for a dedicated volunteer to continue to visit them on a regular basis. Frequently, this volunteer will be their only regular visitor and will be much welcomed support.
We provide equipment to assist with daily living; benefits and concessions as well as social and
    educational opportunities.

Our services will grow as the incidences of diabetes and obesity grow as well as an ageing population. By 2020 we are anticipating a 50% increase in those requiring our services. To deliver our services we must grow too.
Our services are provided to all age groups. Whilst it is recognised that visual impairment is associated with the older population, we have number of school and work age service users. Our aim is to support these people with finding employment.
You can find full details on our website at www. Hertsblind. Com, or you can
