Friends of M.V. Freedom

The centre point of our operational activity is the provision and crewing of a specially adapted motor catamaran, with which we are able to provide stimulating and enjoyable sea going experiences for the young and elderly alike. Together with their carers, our users are taken on 2-3 hour trips, running twice a day during the summer months, around Weymouth Bay, Portland Harbour and along the Dorset Jurassic Coast often via the well-known beauty spots of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.

Founded 1981

  • Mission statement

The Friends of MV Freedom Charity was first registered 35 years ago and has remained devoted to the provision of a stimulating and enjoyable sea going experience for those living with disability, by the provision of a specially adapted motor boat, namely MV FREEDOM.

    MVF believes strongly in:-
 The importance of a safe environment where those living with disability are not excluded
from enjoyable sea going experiences. MVF sees itself as:-
 Caring, respecting, and valuing people’s individuality
 Enabling and empowering the support of those living with disability.
 Non-condemnatory, judging situations not people
 Seeking and gaining the respect of professional colleagues
     Working consultatively and collaboratively
     Open and communicative
     Knowledgeable, with a “can-do” approach to problem-solving

  • Aims

Friends of M.V. Freedom aims to:

    • 1. To increase the throughput of persons, living with disability, on the sea going excursions and to engage with those who are often excluded from such activities.
    • To widen our client base to include young people, the elderly and ex- military personnel living with disability,
    • To ensure our charity income is sufficient to cater for the costs of maintaining our current vessel.
    • To increase our savings in the New Boat Fund to enable the purchase a replacement vessel.
