Wetwheels builds disabled people’s confidence and wellbeing by providing active, participatory, therapeutic outdoor sea-going adventures. All disabled people can participate and benefit, even those who are often marginalised or excluded due to the severity or complex nature of their impairments or conditions.
Wetwheels is unique. No one else is doing what we do. We provide the opportunity for those who cannot, or do not want to sail, to get on the water in a meaningful, fulfilling and empowering way as a shared experience.
5,000 people a year experience a Wetwheels adventure, on one of our five specially designed, fully accessible powerboats. Our award-winning inclusive activities are proven to be fun, safe, stimulating and rewarding.
We exist to address the lack of opportunities for disabled people to experience the thrill of the open water; spray on their face, wind in their hair, the roar of the engines, and racing over the waves.
Incredibly, 80% of our participants have never been on a boat before as the opportunity had not existed until Wetwheels. Indeed, for many of our participants, we are the only active, outdoor sporting activity open to them.
Time spent with us – experiencing new sensations, pushing personal boundaries, learning new skills, and interpersonal interaction in a positive, supportive environment – can improve confidence and wellbeing. This leads to further recreational participation and social interaction, and can be the catalyst to sustained, long-term personal change.
Wetwheels Foundation aims to:
- Build disabled people's confidence and wellbeing.
- Provide access to the sea for all disabled people.
- Promote equality of opportunity for all disabled people.
