The Kerusso Trust
The Kerusso Trust
The Kerusso Trust is a non-denominational Christian education charity working in Malawi in Central Africa. We provide basic Bible and ministry training programmes for rural church leaders, both men and women. To multiply the benefit, we then equip some as trainers of others. We are developing a residential Training and Resource Centre with a library. We support youth-led Community Children’s Bible Clubs, and provide bursaries for girls living in poverty to attend a Christian secondary school.
Our mission statement: “Training 1000s to reach 100,000s for Christ in Malawi”.
In Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa. The Church is growing yet over 90% of church leaders receive little or no training for their vital work of preaching, counselling and giving pastoral care to people often living in poverty. The Kerusso Trust has a long-term strategic partnership with the Malawian discipleship and leadership training organisation J-Life Ministries. Our core programme, known as ‘Learn2Serve’, has provided 1000s of rural church leaders with a basic ‘toolkit’ of training in Biblical discipleship, servant leadership and practical ministry. The vision is “to train and mobilize church leaders to build Christ’s Kingdom and to serve others”.
Many trained church leaders have no access to books and other resources. Working with other Christian charities, we have a library in the Training and Resource Centre we have developed. Our partnership is mentoring the next generation of church leaders, as they lead community-based Bible clubs, attended weekly by over 1,000 village children.
Many girls from rural families are unable to attend secondary school through poverty and low expectations. Many end up in early marriage and pregnancy. Through a bursary programme, we are enabling them to continue their education at a girls’ Christian school, and so gain hope.
We believe passionately in partnership working, learning from one another, and empowering our Malawian partners.
The Kerusso Trust aims to:
- The advancement of the Christian faith, and as ancillary thereto prevention and relief of poverty, advancement of education and prevention and relief of sickness.
