Bar Pro Bono Unit
The Bar Pro Bono Unit runs a national free service matching volunteer barristers to those in need of legal help who can't afford it or get legal aid.
We are the only pro bono charity to provide legal assistance in all areas of law in all courts across England and Wales.
The Bar Pro Bono Unit runs a national free service matching volunteer barristers to those in need of legal help who can't afford it or get legal aid. They might be struggling to see their children, be close to losing their home, have been defrauded or be facing an employment or immigration tribunal alone, among a whole range of issues.
Since we were founded in 1996, we have helped thousands of people to get expert free legal advice and representation. On average, we hear from 50 new people every week facing a complicated legal problem with little or no support.
Our vision is to be able to match everyone needing legal help quickly and easily to the right expert barrister who has agreed to volunteer their time. Dealing with complex legal cases can take weeks to identify exactly how someone needs our help, so we need to recruit more volunteers and staff to be able to help everyone that needs us.
Bar Pro Bono Unit aims to:
- Match everyone who can't afford legal help or get legal aid to an expert volunteer barrister.
