Build On Books
Build On Books
Build on Books is an all-volunteer charity supporting schools and communities in Sierra Leone in order to reduce poverty and improve the lives of some of the worlds poorest children. We supply books, furniture, water and sanitation to schools. We also help communities to develop by proving seeds for farmers and school and in some cases school and community buildings. Sierra Leone has experienced many disasters since the civil war including Ebola, Flooding and mudslides. With a team permanently on the ground, we are always there to help in an emergency
Our aim is to reduce the devastating effects of poverty that blights young lives by denying them their rights to a good education and food and clean water. Build on Books is building a firm foundation for development based on education and the provision of basic necessities such as clean water, sanitation and food security.
We are based in Marlow Buckinghamshire in the UK where we have a small team of unpaid volunteers. In Sierra Leone, we have a large team of local teachers and community leaders and professionals who volunteer their time to really make a difference at the grassroots level.
Build On Books aims to:
- To continue to ship books, furniture and stationery to schools and libraries who currently have very few resources to help then give children a decent education
- To build 4 more rice drying floors so 4 more villages can benefit from our food security program. We aim to bring 4 more communities out of food poverty to increase child life expectancy greatly.
- To accessible toilets for 23 disabled children at a primary school in Sierra Leone. We aim to give amputee and other children in wheelchairs accessible, safe and dignified sanitation facilities.
