The Bumba Foundation is a small UK registered charity (established in 2012) following the trustee’s work in Uganda since 1997. The Bumba Foundation provides sustainable education opportunities to children in vulnerable areas of Uganda through innovative projects and community ownership with a focus on the reduction of poverty.
Since 2012 we have successfully raised the funds to build and run two community primary schools in Iki Iki Village and Mugiti Village, Budaka District in Eastern Uganda and two vocational training centres for the unemployed young people in the district, which is based at our community schools. Both schools currently educate over 600 children a year and have also been developed to improve health, education and a reduction of poverty within the community.
Through the creation of our community schools and vocational centres, it allows children and young people regardless of their situation to gain the best academic and vocational education. Working with the community has allowed us to ensure they have the ownership and responsibility for their future, which ensures education is promoted at every level of the community. The community school model which we have developed, has ensured the schools are sustainable in their operations, which also ensuring the local orphans gain education and all the children are provided with breakfast and lunch.
The projects are successfully run by volunteer community management teams, which have been established to ensure the local needs are managed, there is accountability and the schools are sustainable. Through the development of our projects we have seen a cultural change in the community, with a greater value being placed on the education and vocational skills.
