CDEC is a small, Cumbria-based charity with a big heart, an established track record and big ambitions to influence and promote global citizenship throughout Cumbria, nationally and internationally.

CDEC has been working since 1984 with schools and community organisations in different ways to help develop our county’s children, young people and adults to be global citizens.

    Building a fairer, more sustainable world.

    We want to ensure our county is filled with global citizens, and aim to achieve this by providing global learning.

    CDEC works with schools, communities and businesses to provide global learning by:
    1. Delivering continuing professional development (CPD) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) training as well as classroom and workshop sessions for children and young people
    2. Providing advice, a network of support and resources for schools and organisations
    3. Running community-based projects that engage and support those living in Cumbria
    4. Working in partnership with a range of organisations to encourage thinking about, and action on, local and global issues.

    Cumbria Development Education Centre aims to:

    • Education: CDEC raises awareness of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and promotes global learning to engage all participants in 'Think Global, Act Local'.
    • Advancement of citizenship or community development: we empower communities to build a fairer, more sustainable world by engaging them to think critically about local problems and global impacts
    • Grounding our work in the aims of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, CDEC's work promotes human rights, conflict resolution, equality and diversity, access to education, clean water and planet
