Migration Museum Project

The Migration Museum Project is shining a light on the many ways that the movement of people to and from Britain across the ages has shaped who we are –as individuals, as communities, and as a nation. We are doing this through the creation of an inspiring national Migration Museum, a far-reaching nationwide education programme, and a knowledge-sharing network of museums and galleries across the UK.

Founded 2013

  • Mission statement

Britain’s migration story is an essential part of who we all are, as individuals, communities and as a nation. We want everyone to hear that story. And we want it to be told by all of us.

  • Aims

    Migration Museum Project aims to:

    • To build knowledge, understanding and empathy and contribute to a more reasoned conversation about migration in the UK.
    • To improve representation of the UK's diverse heritage, talents, contributions and stories through an inspiring cultural programme of events and exhibitions.
    • To act as a natural hub for communities and groups - a safe space where everyone can feel that they belong and where their opinion and identity is represented and welcomed
    • To create a permanent Migration Museum for the UK, putting this important subject at centre stage in our cultural landscape where it belongs.
