Craft Aid International

Craft Aid International enables, empowers and supports people with disabilities in the UK and the developing world, through therapeutic crafts workshops, high quality crafts training and social enterprise.

Founded 2013

  • Mission statement

In the UK we run weekly therapeutic crafts workshops for people with disabilities in the community, and for long-term hospital in-patients. In the developing world (currently Peru and Ecuador), we work with local partners to establish social enterprises to provide handicrafts training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities living in poverty, allowing them to support themselves and their families. We are also working with a large number of people with learning disabilities, providing a holistic service that includes training, support, therapeutic wages, transferable skills and counselling.

  • Aims

    Craft Aid International aims to:

    • To provide weekly therapeutic crafts workshops for adults with disabilities in the community in the UK, and for long-term hospital inpatients; reducing social isolation & teaching crafts skills.
    • To establish social enterprises in the developing world to provide training & employment opportunities, plus holistic services, for people with disabilities who would otherwise be living in poverty.
    • To change negative attitudes towards differently-able people in the UK & the developing world, through sensitising communities to the skills, abilities and employ-ability of people with disabilities.
