Choices Islington provides independent, compassionate and non-directive support to women throughout their pregnancy journey. We help those facing an unplanned pregnancy to make their own informed choices in a safe space and with a trained counsellor. We then offer support whatever their decision. We provide befriending, free loan of baby clothes and equipment and parenting courses. We also offer free counselling to those struggling after a termination or with other child loss concerns.
As a faith-based organisation, Choices’ foundational value is the need to respond with compassion, care and respect to those with unplanned pregnancy or post abortion concerns. We provide clients with accurate information and the opportunity to understand their thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgemental environment. We therefore seek to empower them to make informed choices in the present or to resolve difficulties arising from their choices in the past. We will also practically support clients in handling the outcomes of their choice whether it is to continue or to terminate the pregnancy or to choose adoption.
Young people are facing unprecedented pressures in the area of sex and relationships often with little guidance from peers and family. To help avoid the dilemma of an unplanned pregnancy, Choices provides relationships and sexual health education with an emphasis on self-respect and relationship values which will empower participants to resist peer pressures and make healthy relationship choices.
Choices Islington aims to:
- To help reduce distress for women (and their partners) facing an unplanned pregnancy and facilitate informed decision-making in a non-directive and compassionate manner.
- To support vulnerable mothers in practical ways including provision of practical and emotional help with parenting - through parenting courses, free baby clothes and equipment and 1-1 befriending.
- To facilitate resolution for women (and men), including offenders, troubled by abortion or other pregnancy or child loss/separation concerns.
- To empower young people and disadvantaged groups to make healthy lifestyle, relationships and sexual health choices and thereby reduce unplanned pregnancy (and STI rates) and build self esteem.
