Founded 2003

  • Mission statement

The Beechtree Community Centre was established as a Healthy Living Centre in 2003 to tackle inequalities in health, reduce social exclusion and encourage healthy lifestyles. The Beechtree is the only multi-functional integrated project supporting a broad range of ages and needs across North Shropshire.
Located in Whitchurch North which is a Lower Super Output Area within 30% most deprived nationally, we have for the past 10 years successfully engaged with those living on the margins of society who are experiencing disadvantage through low income, unemployment, rural isolation, chronic ill-health and disability.
The project has grown and developed over the past 10 years to include outreach into the surrounding rural community. Our health and wellbeing activities support adults with; mobility issues; chronic health conditions; bereaved; rural isolation; depression; loneliness. The focus of these activities is towards maintenance and re-ablement (through Walking for Health and Extend exercise), and sustaining social and community connections by building friendships and confidence (through Arts and Crafts; Healthy Eating/cooking; Family History; Silver Surfer IT courses).
We provide an after school drop-in for young people age 8 -- 16 yrs. The majority of young people come from disadvantaged families i. E. Low income; ethnic minorities; poor eating habits/obesity; limited access to digital technologies; poor transport links; shrinking employment opportunities.
