BRIGHT supports research and treatment for Gastro Intestinal cancer patients. BRIGHT, set up in 1996, is based at St Lukes Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey County Hospital serving an adult population of 1. 2 million within Surrey & Sussex. The GI cancers covered by BRIGHT include bowel cancers and cancers of the stomach, oesophagus, pancreas and gallbladder. We work with patients in identifying their needs; from raising awareness, to investing in clinical research and developing innovative treatments.
To raise a minimum of £100,000 a year to significanty improve the outcomes for GI patients within the Surrey and Sussex community by investing in research and developing new innovative treatments.
To lead the way in how GI cancers are treated within the UK by supporting new innovative treatments such as the funding of a Papillon Machine at St Luke's Cancer Hospital in Guildford ( The machine cost £200,000 of which BRIGHT contributed 50%).
BRIGHT Cancer Care aims to:
- To raise a minimum of £100,000 a year to continue to fund research projects to help identify new ways of tailoring treatments and improving outcomes for GI patients.
- To play a significant part in leading the way in developing and promoting innovative new treatments for GI cancers within the UK and World Wide.
- To build awareness within Surrey and the UK about the Papillon treatment which offers a real alternative to surgery for some patients.
- To support the Bowel Screening Initiative by reminding people about the important of early detention.
