Why Comics? brings contemporary humanitarian and social issues into the classroom through literary comic books based on real-life testimony. We provide teachers with national-curriculum relevant lesson plans for multiple subjects and all of our literary comics are embedded with interactive contextual resources.
At Why Comics? We aim to revolutionise education. There is a gap in engaging, accessible, age-appropriate educational resources on vital global topics. We create high quality teaching resources covering a wide range of contemporary humanitarian and social issues, using the arts to fuel students’ curiosity and creativity.
Why Comics? Ethnographic resources have a powerful impact, because they are real stories. No matter your ethnicity, age, gender or literacy levels, people can understand and empathise with the human stories. Our aim is to assist teachers in engaging children and young people in difficult and complex dialogues so that students can learn to think critically, ask questions and develop their social and moral understanding. We want to achieve stronger school cultures, closer communities and in the future wider social change. Our work is not confined to the classroom, we provide a safe place for children to explore humanitarian issues in their own time, using our free, easy to use website (whycomics. Org).
Why Comics? aims to:
- Advance education by providing educational materials
- Advance awareness of human rights, and to promote religious and racial harmony and equality and diversity
- Advance the arts, culture and heritage
