Friends of Guys Marsh Prison

Raising funds to provide programmes aimed at the rehabilitation of prisoners of HMP Guys Marsh in order to return them to the community as law abiding citizens. We work in co-operation with the Governors and staff to achieve our aims.

Founded 2003

  • Mission statement

We seek to promote and support the rehabilitation and resettlement of prisoners who are or have been prisoners of HMP Guys Marsh. We raise funds through subscriptions, individual and corporate donations, and other fundraising events. With the advice of the Governor we provide funding in support of and benefit to the prisoners and the staff of Guys Marsh.
We fund a weekly bus from the local station to the prison for visitors at a nominal charge, which is crucial to maintain family ties.
We have recently appointed a Resettlement Co-ordinator to work with the many and diverse voluntary agencies coming into the prison for the benefit of prisoners.
With the drastic cuts in the prison service, some music courses have been axed. We are raising funds to reintroduce a music course for prisoners with mental health issues.
We support the families of prisoners by paying for refreshments and play equipment for Family Days.
