Bradbourne Group Riding For The Disabled Association

Bradbourne RDA Group is one of the largest RDA groups in the UK and has been operating for over fifty years. It is based outside Sevenoaks and is entirely run by 130 volunteers who enable over 300 disabled children and adults from the local area participate in over 4000 rides and carriage drives each year. The Group is busy from providing an introduction to riding for very disabled individuals to dressage, endurance and show jumping events locally, regionally and nationally.

Founded 1962

  • Mission statement

The objective of the Riding for the Disabled Association is to give the opportunity of riding or driving to any disabled person who might benefit in their general health and well being. Working across the spectrum of disabilities, age range, social status and urban and rural environments, our focus is to help each individual to derive a direct therapeutic benefit and to achieve their personal goal.

Bradbourne RDA Group enables disabled individuals from the local area to:
    - Reach therapeutic goals: improve muscle tone and posture, develop fine and gross motor movement.
    - Achieve their personal ambitions: sit on a horse or ride in a carriage for the first time, learn new skills.
    - Combat social isolation: build relationships, enjoy events and competition, develop self-confidence.
    - Develop life skills: improve communication, be a team player, take responsibility.
    - Experience the outdoors: ride or carriage drive in the countryside, access rural Britain.
    - Connect with animals: bringing positivity and optimism, adding a new element to life.

We encourage our riders and carriage drivers to take RDA proficiency tests and to compete in local and regional RDA competitions.

We are also involved in a country wide course, ASDAN, which allows riders to gain a recognised award in horse care and management alongside their riding or carriage driving skills, as assessed by the RDA proficiency tests.
