We're a charity that helps families through child bereavement. We offer help and guidance whilst campaigning and fundraising for improved bereavement services.
Founded in 2014 by bereaved parents Andrea & John Kerslake & created in their late son's name, Elliot's Footprint is working hard to take the loneliness and frustration out of the systems and processes that families face in the aftermath of losing a child.
Supporting families to rebuild their lives after the sudden death of a child by providing information, linking bereavement services and funding bereavement support.
We want to provide families and anyone closely connected with a child that has died, with supportive information that will help guide them through the immediate aftermath as well as the weeks, months and years that follow.
Linking bereavement services
We aim to link together bereavement services and other statutory bodies and professionals that may be involved in the family’s journey after experiencing child bereavement. This will maximise the support given and reduce the negative impact that can result when a family is not in control, not informed, given wrong information and treated poorly.
Funding bereavement support
We will fund bereavement support for families in west Yorkshire, where there is insufficient help, extremely long waiting lists and inaccessible ring-fenced specialist support.
Elliot's Footprint aims to:
- Access to information and support We want to be a source of information and we develop information for schools that will support staff with the impact on the school community
- Improving the link between statutory bodies We believe that there is a need for some professionals to receive further guidance about how they can best support and communicate grieving families.
- Bereavement Support Workers We are working with other organisations to raise the funds to pay for a Bereavement Support Worker who will reach out & be there for a family when they need it.
- Research We research into the underlying problems affecting child bereavement support.
