Schoolreaders is a national charity that improves the literacy and life outcomes of disadvantaged children in England by recruiting volunteers from the community and matching them to a local school to listen to children read on a one-to-one basis.
It is unique in being the only national, charitable literacy organisation providing this service to schools for free.
To improve literacy across the nation by creating a network of volunteers who listen to children read in their local primary schools.
Schoolreaders aims to:
- To improve children's literacy by providing volunteers who listen to children read in primary schools on a 1-1 basis.
- To reduce the educational disadvantage and wider social and economic inequalities to which low levels of literacy contribute.
- To give every child the opportunity to read well and fulfil their potential, regardless of their background.
