Charity information

Bristol Area Stroke Foundation

With our small friendly team of Stroke Coordinators, Group Organisers, Counsellors and volunteers, we provide practical and emotional support, opportunities to meet people in a similar situation, counselling, information and advocacy for around 700 families per year in Bristol and South Gloucestershire at a very vulnerable time in their lives. We know that people can only recover physically if their emotional and psychological needs are met in a timely and accessible fashion.

Founded 1983

  • Mission statement

BASF’s mission is to support people to adjust to life after stroke, underpinned by a vision that:
 Everyone who has had a stroke can get the help they need to re-gain confidence, achieve a level of independence, and re-build a fulfilling life.
 Counselling or psychological support is offered to all people affected by stroke, including their carers, as we recognise that many people need professional emotional or psychological support to adjust to their life after stroke.
 BASF services make a measurable difference to people's lives after stroke.
 The voice of people affected by stroke is heard so that services are improved and needs are met.
