St Mary Abbots Employment Project (smart)

SMART is an energetic charity that promotes mental health through purposeful activity. We offer a range of supported work and training opportunities in a friendly and enabling environment. People build both practical and personal skills, gaining experience and confidence. Working 1:1 with individuals we help them to find work and training outside SMART and reconnect people with their community through our programme of social events. We work in partnership with statutory and community services

Founded 1985

  • Mission statement

SMART’s vision is of a growing therapeutic community where people support each other and themselves. SMART will continue to promote mental health through purposeful activity. It will develop and maintain constructive working relationships with service users, carers, families, colleagues, lay people and wider community networks. SMART will nurture and promote positive practice in mental health.

 SMART encourages people affected by mental ill-health to be at the heart of creating their individual plans for achieving and measuring outputs that matter to them. This may include the maintenance of remission as much as the traditional, outward signs of recovery e. G. Employment etc.

 Where SMART services do not meet the objectives of service users in achieving or maintaining recovery, then we will seek to work collaboratively with other care providers and/or the wider community to signpost and enable appropriately.

 In addition to statutory guidance, all SMART staff and services will be guided by developments in relevant best practice and specifically the Competencies for Mental Health (See Appendix G)

 All those entering SMART premises must abide by its core values of equality, respect, aspiration, kindness and tolerance. All those representing SMART must abide by these values in their interaction with others.

 The Organisation will demonstrably provide value for money.
