At Make Lunch our aim is simple: to fill hungry tummies. We open in the holidays and invite families living below the line to enjoy free, healthy, cooked food, fun activities and good conversation.

  • Mission statement

St Mark's MK is a church whose mission is to live out Faith, Hope and Love wherever we are and whoever we are with. St Mark's has a charitable initiative called 'f1VE' which aims to change the statistic that one in five children across Milton Keynes live in poverty. ‘Make Lunch MK’ is one of our projects.
Free school meals ensure that children are well nourished during term but 1 in 5 children live below the poverty line in Milton Keynes and the holidays can be a time of scarcity as the need to provide additional food places strain on household budgets. When fixed bills such as rent and utilities are still due, the food bill is the outgoing that is compromised.
This is where Make Lunch comes in. Our aim is simple:to fill hungry tummies. Our ethos is that anyone who walks through the door - whatever their age, ethnicity, religion, hometown, team or dress sense - is one of the family and are welcome at the table where we enjoy good food together and no-one sits on their own. We believe that every person is a ‘story wrapped in skin’ and that, when a family finds themselves living in poverty, it is never the fault of the child (and usually not the fault of the parent either). So, at Make Lunch MK, we want everyone to feel welcomed, respected, empowered and valuable.
During school holidays we open lunch kitchens to provide free, healthy, cooked food for children and their families who would usually benefit from free school meals.

  • Aims

St Mark's Milton Keynes aims to:

    • The immediate benefit of Make Lunch MK is very tangible: that guests coming along to Make Lunch kitchens - both children and adults alike - leave with tummies full of good food.
    • To help bridge the gap between children from poorer backgrounds and their more affluent peers: seeing all children begin each half term on an even footing with their peers.
