Mangravet Church (working as Grace Community Church, Maidstone)

We have always had a vision to play an active and supportive role in our local community. We provide a place for Christian worship but also provide community activities and events. Our buildings are also in constant use by local community groups as well as for other activities.

Founded 1928

  • Mission statement

Mangravet Estate was built in the 1920s and a church was built on the estate in 1928. Our main and outer buildings are now in desperate need of modernisation and our limiting as a result. Our vision with any new facilities is to maintain and increase our work with the local community as well as providing a place for Christian worship. In 2007 the church became part of the Assemblies of God in the UK and became known as Grace Community Church (which is the charity's working name).

We have always sought to make a positive contribution to our community in running a variety of community events, and helping to provide a number of different services - including debt counselling, keep-fit classes, programmes for children and young people as well as supporting older people.

Our buildings are also been in constant use by other community groups which over the years have included a school for young people excluded from main-line education, a variety of child-minder groups, a 'Brownies' club, a local Narcotics Anonymous group and more latterly a local pre-school. We also have close ties with our local junior school.

We have raised over £140,000, which includes a gift of £10,000 from a local business. We are also applying for funding from a variety of organisations and so far we have pledges totalling £15,000. The total budget for the project is £1m, but we are aiming to complete it in three phases with Phase 1A requiring £500,000 which will give us a new community centre.
