Upbeat Communities Ltd
Upbeat Communities Ltd
Upbeat Communities provides support to refugees at different stages of their journeys. We address the needs of those newly arrived in the UK, as well as supporting those that have been through the asylum process and have been granted refugee status.
Our three main areas of work are:
Welcome - initial support, befriending and integration activities
Empowerment - training and support to rebuild lives
Awareness raising - working with the local community to build understanding
We are a Christian charity that exists to help refugees settle and rebuild their lives in the UK. We want to see strangers become neighbours.
We encourage and mobilise the local community to welcome and support those fleeing war and persecution to rebuild their lives in the UK. We aim to make sure that when someone arrives here in the UK they feel welcomed, they are able to settle and learn about their new home and culture, and get the right help at the right time - so they begin to feel like neighbours, not strangers, to those around them. We work with people regardless of race, disability, sex, age, religious belief or sexual orientation. We have a vision to see community built between people of different cultures, backgrounds and experiences, with everyone able to grow and make a contribution.
We believe that one of the practical out-workings of the Christian faith is to welcome the newcomer and build caring communities where everyone has an opportunity to flourish. We value the uniqueness of each individual and the opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity and difference. We believe good cross-community relationships are key to building strong and cohesive communities.
