Home-start Ashford & District

We support vulnerable families with at least one child under 8. Difficulties include physical/ mental
illness, disability, poverty, social isolation, multiple
births ,domestic violence and family
breakdown. We offer practical and emotional support through a home-visiting
volunteer and/or group activities for up to a year or beyond if appropriate. This enhances parents' confidence, helps them find safe, healthy parenting strategies and improves the life chances of children from a very early age.

Founded 1989

  • Mission statement

Home-Start Ashford is committed to supporting parents to give their children the best possible start in life. Helping parents to build better lives for their children against a backdrop of difficulty and hardship is at the centre of what we do. Volunteers build trusting, supportive relationships with families to empower them to face their challenges and resolve problems in a positive way for the benefit of the whole family. Happier more confident parents results in happier, healthier children who are more likely to reach their full potential socially, educationally and economically. Our mission is to provide non-judgemental support and friendship in the home, at the heart of the family, where it is needed and more readily accepted. Supporting families whilst their children are very young enables skilled, trained, experienced volunteers to introduce ideas and strategies that will make an impact from the very start. Our Big Lottery project is entitled 'It's Never Too Early' which underpins our ethos of early intervention: helping to prevent family crisis before it occurs.
