  • Mission statement

Our vision for Winterbourne Medieval Barn is to create a multi-purpose rural heritage venue which will celebrate the history and heritage of this extraordinary site and its environment, making it accessible to people of all ages. Past and present will come together through a range of memorable and diverse experiences and opportunities to participate.

Once fully restored, Winterbourne will be many things to many people: a beautiful and peaceful place to discover the medieval history and heritage of Winterbourne and its surrounding landscape; an inspirational setting for children and adults to learn and be creative through heritage and rural craft-themed activities and courses; and an important historic environment where natural habitats have been shaped by the activities and practices of past generations. Add to this our varied programme of family-friendly community events, music, theatre and guided tours and there will be something for everyone.

Artisans practicing traditional craft skills such as willow weaving and blacksmithing will be based in craft workshops in the Cow Byres, helping bring the site back into daily use. The Barn and its outbuildings will be available for hire by community groups and individuals looking for somewhere special to hold their own event or activity. This, together with the year-round programme of events and activities, will help local people take Winterbourne to their hearts, ensuring it is saved for future generations.
