Service By Emergency Rider Volunteers

SERV Sussex provides a free, rapid, reliable means of transporting emergency blood products, X-rays, patient notes, time-critical laboratory samples and test results to hospitals and medical facilities at night, on request. SERV volunteers provide the ONLY service to collect and deliver human donor breast milk in the south-east of the UK. This involves collecting blood samples and frozen milk from donors at home, their delivery to treatment milkbanks and the onward delivery of processed milk.

  • Mission statement

Where is SERV Sussex going in the future? Our goal is to rise to the ever-increasing requests from the local NHS Trusts to expand our human milk transport service and support of the Community Foundation NHS Trust in Sussex. We now provide daily support to milk banks at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust), St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, Princess Royal Hospital in Orpington, King’s College Hospital, St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey and the Trevor Mann Neonatal Unit in Brighton. We are the only charity to collect human infant milk from donors in Sussex, Surrey and London at pre-arranged times and deliver to the milk banks in the South-East. We also deliver treated milk to mothers at their homes if they need donor milk and cannot make it to the hospital to collect the supplies.
Our goal is to rise to the ever-increasing requests from the local milkbanks and local community trusts to provide a rapid and reliable DAILY means of transporting donor human milk and to support the Sussex Community Trust children’s nursing team. To facilitate this, we are seeking funds to keep our existing fleet of motocycles on the road and to purchase a new bespoke, hybrid vehicle. The vehicle we are looking at has low emissions, will require little maintenance costs and will have low environmental impact in traffic.
