Out Of Sight
Out Of Sight
We support blind and visually impaired children, we provide free events during school holidays and free short breaks in our respite facility at Chloe's Den, a wheelchair accessible (with wet room and facilities for severely disabled children) caravan in a five star facility, at Amble Links in Northumberland. Most of the children we support are severely disabled.
We seek to include the children and families in community, caring for a child with disability often brings isolation.
We seek to overcome financial hardship, caring for a child with severe disability often means one or both of the parents are unable to work to meet the medical needs of the child.
We are a group with similar needs, we share experiences, informally support each other and make friendships.
We are unique in so far as no one else in the North East provides the same services and offers free holidays.
We seek to include the whole of the family, including siblings in all of events. Often siblings miss out too, because the needs of the disabled child can often take prioirty.
We seek to make life-long memories for the families we support, caring for children with "life-limiting" illness, can be so upsetting and stressful, so we aim to make the best memories we can - hence we offer our bespoke caravan (Chloe's Den) for respite - everything is provided free.
Chloe's Den, is named after one of the children that passed away aged 9 years.
It is so important to us all to be spirited, be included, make friendships and have some fun.
There are very limited places we can include our children in the community, so this Charity has grown because there is a need to support families caring for children with severe disability.
We need funding to continue providing free events; free holidays - VODA Best Voluntary Group in the North East 2016/1
Out Of Sight aims to:
- We aim to continue provide free events during school holiday periods to the disabled child, their siblings and families (as a group to meet their needs). Promoting friendships and inclusion.
- To continue to provide free short-break holidays at Chloe's Den a 5 star caravan at Amble Links: relieving stress; recharging batteries; make life-long memories. Providing bespoke accommodation.
- Generally we aim to include our children and families in the community despite financial hardship, seeking to prevent isolation, promote friendships with other families in is similar circumstances.
