Elephants For Africa
Elephants For Africa
Elephants for Africa, a registered NGO in Botswana, is dedicated to the conservation of elephants and other wildlife in their natural ecosystems. By conducting field researcher on male African elephants and providing local education programs we seek to improve the long-term survival of elephants and the quality of life of local communities through capacity building opportunities.
The advancement of education and research for the benefit of the public in the conservation, protection and monitoring of elephants. This is achieved by monitoring the demographics, ecology, behaviour and movement of African elephants and working to reduce human-wildlife conflict in communities living alongside wildlife in the Boteti River Region in Botswana.
We deliver ‘Living With’ workshops, to inform rural communities about wild animal ecology and behaviour, promoting safer living in proximity to elephants. The elephant population has experienced a rapid increase in recent years. This combined with farmers and rural community members lacking traditional and cultural methods for dealing with elephants, a principle of fear has rapidly developed towards them. Tackling these fears, empowering local people to find sustainable solutions for coexistence, and providing them with the education to understand and value the importance of keystone species, particularly elephants, will ensure the continued support of rural communities in conservation efforts.
Partnering with primary school Environmental Clubs, we also deliver a curriculum-based environmental education program that teaches natural ecology, wild animal behavior and conflict mitigation to primary-aged children.
