Myaware provide a network of support and a welcoming 'family' for people with this rare muscle disease.
We CARE for myasthenics and their families
We fund RESEARCH into MG
We seek to EDUCATE about MG.
Myasthenia Gravis is an auto immune disease which is characterised by the fluctuating, sometimes fatal muscle weakness. The body's immune system, in the form of antibodies, attacks and damages the nerve signal reception areas causing a breakdown in communication between nerve and muscle, which results in a loss of effectiveness of the muscle.
The Myasthenia Gravis Association is a Charity working from its Headquarters in Derby through its Branches and Representatives throughout the Country, offering support to Myasthenics and their families, increasing public and medical awareness and raising funds for Research in order to find a cure. Recent Research has resulted in more understanding and better management of the disease but there is still no cure.
myaware aims to:
- We seek to educate the general public and also the medical profession to be aware of the presenting symptoms of MG to aid early diagnosis. Undiagnosed and untreated 1 in 3 people with MG will die.
- To offer a network of support for people living with MG and their families, particularly offering a lifeline to the newly diagnosed. We do this through newsletter, forum, helpline and support groups.
- We seek to fund research into MG. The ultimate aim is to find a cure but in the meantime find new treatments to help people live better with MG and new methods to aid diagnosis.
