Lagan's Foundation is a unique charity bridging the gap between NHS and Community care by offering respite support services across England and Wales to carers of children under the age of 5 with life limiting heart or feeding difficulties for 2 hours a week.
We are a small national charity (<£100K) and we serve to ensure sick and disabled children discharged from hospital and their families have qualified and high quality support from active support workers in their own home. These children range from end of life and severely life limited to children with significant complex health issues which are not currently supported in community effectively but would be able to enjoy a full life within the constraints of their condition. The charity trains volunteer support workers to enable them to care for children with complex needs via a Ofqual accredited training program delivered by medical or industry professionals, ensuring the support workers understand the health and care needs they will be supporting via delegated tasks. We have extensive experience in rare genetic conditions, feeding tubes and alternative methods of feeding and feeding support. Via our feeding specialty this opens up our services to a wide range of children with variety of health needs and we have received consistent feed back that our service is a life line to carers, preventing isolation, the escalation of mental health issues, exhaustion/fatigue, mistakes and increased safeguarding awareness.
