Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service support children (aged 0-19 years) who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families throughout Berkshire and the surrounding areas. We provide respite care, play activities, symptom control, end-of-life care and bereavement support for the child and their families.

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

Our mission statement is to, “Reach out to every child and family who needs us, offering care and support from people who understand”. Our vision is about supporting the child and the whole family through a holistic approach to care. Based in Maidenhead, our Alexander Care Team work within the community throughout Berkshire and the surrounding counties visiting the family home or supporting the family when a child is in hospital.
Our new children’s hospice, the first in the county, will open in 2017. It will also be able to offer overnight respite care and a much wider range of activities and support groups for the whole family.
We know how much families need a local children’s hospice; somewhere close to home which is warm and welcoming, a place where their child can come to receive excellent care from staff they know and trust, and they can seek comfort and advice. Families can become isolated and need somewhere in their community to come together with others and share the same experiences and build their own network of support.
We are the only charity providing a children’s hospice service in the area. There are over 600 children throughout Berkshire alone and a further 670 children from surrounding areas with life-limiting conditions (Fraser et al. 2012).
The hospice will be able to give families the choice of care they want for their child; in the community or in the new hospice, or both.
