Eureka! The National Children's Museum

Eureka! Was established in Halifax in 1992 as the UK’s only children’s museum, and since then has gone from strength to strength providing innovative play-based learning for children form birth to 11.

Founded 1992

  • Mission statement

Eureka! ’s vision is to bring extraordinary opportunities for creative play and learning to all children

Play is at the heart of the visitor experience at Eureka! And distinguishes a children’s museum from a science centre, traditional museum or school. This learning style cuts across social demographics, cultural differences and a spectrum of special educational needs, providing children with a place that they can take ownership of, where they can learn and be inspired.

Eureka! Aims to build on the natural curiosity and desire to learn that babies are born with and to encourage this in children and adults of all ages. Eureka! Subscribes to the theory that children are born ‘natural scientists’, actively learning through experimenting, hypothesising, interpreting and drawing conclusions. The exhibitions at Eureka! Aim to nurture and sustain this natural curiosity in children and awaken a love of learning in their parents and carers.

  • Aims

Eureka! The National Children's Museum aims to:

    • To bring extraordinary opportunities for play and learning to as many children as possible regardless of circumstances, background or ability.
