Walkabout Foundation

Walkabout Foundation was founded in 2009 by siblings Luis and Carolina Gonzalez-Bunster. Since then, we have distributed over 10,000 wheelchairs in 21 different countries, impacting an estimated 30,000 lives, funded $1 million in groundbreaking research, and opened two rehabilitation centres in Kenya and India.

    Walkabout Foundation's mission is to restore dignity, freedom and independence by providing wheelchairs and rehabilitation in the developing world and funding research to find a cure for paralysis.

  • Aims

    Walkabout Foundation aims to:

    • To restore dignity, freedom and independence to people with mobility disabilities in the developing world by providing wheelchairs appropriate for their environment, lifestyle and disability.
    • To provide individuals affected by mobility disabilities in the developing world with physical and occupational therapy, vocational training and medical care through Walkabout rehabilitation centres.
    • To find a cure for paralysis by funding research into spinal cord injury.
    • To reduce the stigma that surrounds disability in many developing countries by making PWDs more visible in their communities, through opportunities for schooling, employment, or general participation.
