Seven Stories, The National Centre for Children's Books

Seven Stories celebrates the wonderful world of children’s books – it’s about how books are made, where books come from, how children can get involved in books.

Founded 1996

  • Mission statement

Seven Stories is Britain’s home for children’s literature. Our mission is to save, share and celebrate the wonderful world of children's books, inspiring a lifelong love of reading across generations.

We care for a growing collection of artwork and manuscripts by some of Britain’s best writers and illustrators for children. We use this national archive to bring children’s books to life in lively exhibitions, events and learning activities that celebrate the artform and encourage children and parents, young people and educators to make books and reading part of their lives.

“Children’s books have found a home, and what a home. Here is a place at Seven Stories where children and their stories, where writers and illustrators, poets and storytellers can come together to celebrate the best of children’s literature. Nowhere I’ve been is more likely to inspire children, parents and teachers towards a love of books. ”
Michael Morpurgo, author and Children’s Laureate (2003-5)
