The Somerville Foundation
The Somerville Foundation
The Somerville Foundation provides support, information and advice to young people and adults born with a heart condition, their families and carers. Through difficult times, mental, emotional and physical, and we fight for better services for heart patients. We help with patient referrals to specialist heart units, give dedicated 1-2-1 support for mental health problems, have a free helpline, support patients before and after surgery, and research ways to improve the health of patients.
At the frontline of new research and discoveries to treat heart disease. A small charity making a big difference. Fighting to build a better world for those born with a heart condition.
The Somerville Foundation is a registered charity offering support, information and advice to young people and adults born with a heart condition. In partnership with UCS we have opened a dedicated heart research centre to find new ways to treat heart patients.
There are estimated to be over 250000 adults who were born with a heart disease in the UK. Over half will experience medical and social problems at some time in their adult lives.
The Somerville Foundation's mission is to help adults who were born with a heart condition cope with their condition and champion their rights within all aspects of life.
We make it our Mission:
To ensure that GUCH patients enjoy access to every opportunity, are free from discrimination and are fully supported throughout their life.
Our Vision is:
A world where everyone born with a heart condition receives excellent medical care; where GUCHs lead happy, healthy lives and reach their full potential.
Our Aims are:
To provide all GUCH patients with accurate, timely information and advice, to allow them to grasp opportunities, take informed decisions and make lifestyle choices
To combat isolation and poverty
To fight discrimination through campaigns, education and promoting GUCHs rights
To enable GUCHs to share and learn from experiences and support each other.
