The Lantern Trust Weymouth

The Lantern is an independent registered charity that was founded in 1983 to help vulnerable and marginalized people in the Weymouth & Portland area. The Lantern aims to bring a lasting change in people’s lives through a dedicated service meeting people’s practical, emotional and personal aftercare needs. Our ethos is one of social inclusion and we aim to break cycles of disadvantage and dependency. Central to all that we do is our Coffee Bar sessions that run Monday to Friday 10am-2pm.

  • Mission statement

    The objects of the Trust are to provide a place in Weymouth where for the following:-
    (i) The relief of poverty
    ( i i ) The relief of sickness and the preservation of health
    ( i i ) The relief of-Xhe elderly disabled or lonely-
    (ii) Tn furtherance of the above-mentioned objects but but not further or
    otherwise the Society shall have the following powers:-
    (V) To provide a drop-in centre in Weymouth where those in need may
    receive advice and friendship
    ( VI) To provide a counselling service by telephone or attendance at the centre
    ( i i i ) The provision of assistance in the provision of the f a c i l i t i e s for the recreation or other leisure-time occupation of the inhabitants of Weymouth who have special, need for such
    f a c i l i t i e s by reason of their youth age infirmity or disablement poverty social or econonic circumstances

    (v) To provide practical assistance to the elderly sick and disabled
    (vi) To employ and pay any person or persons (not being a trustee hereof) to supervise organise and carry on the work anthorised by the Trustees and as employers of staff to make a reasonable and necessary provision for the payment of pensions
    and superannuation to or on behalf of employees and their widows and other dependants
    (vii) To raise funds and invite and receive contributions from any person or persons whatsoever by way of loan subscription
