Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service (weston)

Freewheelers EVS provides a free out of hours motorbike courier service to the NHS community.
Our service operates between 7pm and 7am on weekdays and provides 24 hour cover at weekends and on bank holidays.
We carry whole blood, blood and tissue samples, breast milk and emergency medication or medical equipment all as long as they fit safely on a motorbike and in accordance with UN3373.
We also supply blood products to both the WAA and GWAA air bases every night of the year.

Founded 1990

  • Mission statement

Freewheelers EVS is a group of advanced motorcycling enthusiasts and volunteers who provide a free Emergency/Urgent out of hours courier service for NHS hospitals, hospices and community teams in the South West, with 3 key hubs covering Bristol, Bath and Taunton and the surrounding areas.
We also provide a nightly delivery of blood products to the two local air ambulance bases of WAA in Devizes, and GWAA in Bristol 365 nights a year to enhance their critical care capability at the roadside.

As a free voluntary service we undertake to deliver any medical item provided it can be carried safely and securely by motorcycle. This can be whole blood, blood samples, human tissue, medication, patient notes, medical equipment or neo-natal breast milk

All costs in providing our service are covered by public donation and our volunteers raising awareness through collecting at local events or giving talks to a variety of groups who may benefit from our service.

With our operating hours from 19:00 hrs to 07:00 hrs Monday to Friday and 24 hours on weekends and bank holidays we are the unseen service that provides a critical link between the users of our service and the end recipients who we rarely meet.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, but we all have one common goal – to be ready and waiting for that call and deliver what we do best by following our motto ‘ Riding for life’, which could be yours!

  • Aims
