Charity information

Somerville Youth & Play Provision

Somerville is a community led adventure playground and youth service which has provided an essential safe space for school aged children from the deprived area of New Cross, SE London, since 1971. We seek to be an antidote to the consequences of urban deprivation for children and young people as a place for them to be safe, to flourish and to connect with others. The service is free, open all year round, and all day during the school holidays. Over 1200 children and young people are registered.

Founded 1971

  • Mission statement

To provide free open access adventure play and
tailored youth support services for local children and young people, regardless of their
social, financial or ethnic background, celebrating the diversity of the local area and
    promoting community cohesion.

  • Aims

Somerville Youth & Play Provision aims to:

    • Providing children and young people with a safe place to be, where they are valued, feel they belong and that is a real alternative to 'hanging out' on the streets outside of school hours.
    • Providing children and young people with a place to flourish - to gain new skills, challenge themselves, go on trips to new places, gain work experience and apprenticeships and raise their aspirations
    • Providing the community with a place to connect through fun events, activities, and access to support services, to build local relationships and community cohesion.
