Neighbours In Poplar

Neighbours In Poplar began in 1969 with a large party for older east enders. Since then volunteers have cared for thousands of isolated older people of all cultures, particularly concentrating on those living alone. We provide 4 weekly Hubs where older people can come, enjoy a hot meal, activities and company. We also run a project for Homeless people. Each summer we concentrate on young people who cannot afford a holiday away and often get into trouble because they have nothing to do.

  • Mission statement

Neighbours In Poplar strive to provide practical support and care for vulnerable people living at home, regardless of their faith, age, race, gender, culture or disability.

Our secondary mission is to provide disadvantage children with breaks from their normal environment during the summer holidays.

  • Aims

    Neighbours In Poplar aims to:

    • To provide practical care and support for elders living in isolation, in the East End of London. This includes: befriending, volunteering, providing Sunday Socials, residentials, day trips and more.
    • Local children & families from low income households are desperate for breaks during the long school summer holidays. We have provided a subsidised 4wk programme of outings, activities and Fun Days.
    • For 30yrs we have cooked and delivered free, fresh, hot, festive meals to hundreds of people living alone over the Christmas & New Year period. This has been made possible by our fantastic volunteers
